On to the Sweet 16: 2014 NCAA Tournament

The frenzy of games begins today. Hopefully you found the Bracket Preview helpful, and were able to feel more confident with some of the lesser known schools. There are guaranteed to be some huge upsets, and I am confident if you read the handicapping article they will not be a big surprise to you. South Regional (Memphis)

Round of 64
Florida 1 vs Albany 16: Albany already got their tourney win with a play-in victory. Florida is just too dominant
Colorado 8 vs Pittsburgh 9: ACC Championship loss still stings, they get by Colorado easily
VCU 5 vs Stephen F Austin 12: VCU has waited for all season for this. Road back to the Final 4 starts here
UCLA 4 vs Tulsa 13: Danny Manning sees shades of himself first hand in UCLA’s Kyle Anderson
Ohio State 6 vs Dayton 11: Ohio State’s name recognition is greater than their play
Syracuse 3 vs Western Michigan 14: Syracuse is too talented even to let this one slip away
New Mexico 7 vs Stanford 10: Stanford is better than you would think. New Mexico is even better
Kansas 2 vs Eastern Kentucky 15: This will be closer than anyone expects, but Kansas survives

Sweet 16 SouthThird Round
Florida 1 vs Pittsburgh 9: One of the better games all tourney, Florida escapes a scare
VCU 5 vs UCLA 4: Another dominate Anderson performance elevates the Bruins
11 vs Syracuse 3: Dayton squeeze the Orange early and never look back
New Mexico
7 vs Kansas 2: The Lobo’s prove to be more than just a formidable opponent

West Regional (Anaheim)

Round of 64
Arizona 1 vs Weber State 16: Not enough firepower for Weber State to compete
Gonzaga 8 vs Oklahoma St 9: Marcus Smart will elevate his team and his draft stock
Oklahoma 5 vs N. Dakota St 12: The Sooners will find a tough and experienced Bison team
San Diego St 4 vs New Mexico St 13: Too much defense for a team that struggles to score
Baylor 6 vs Nebraska 11: Nebraska will prove they should have been a higher seed
Creighton 3 vs UL Lafayette 14: The Sun Belt champs don’t know what to do with McDermott
Oregon 7 vs BYU 10: This will be a shootout, survived by the Cougars
Wisconsin 2 vs American 15: Potential to be the most lopsided score of this round

Sweet 16 WestThird Round
Arizona 1 vs Oklahoma St 9: Lebryan Nash will create havoc for young Cats post players
N. Dakota St 12 vs New Mexico St 13: Too much size for the Bison to contain
Nebraska 11 vs Creighton 3: Nebraska will have enough manpower to slow down McDermott
BYU 10 vs Wisconsin 2: The Badgers will flex their muscle and wear down a scrappy BYU

Mid-West Regional (Indianapolis)

Round of 64
Wichita State 1 vs Cal Poly 16: The Shockers are out to prove the doubters wrong
Kentucky 8 vs Kansas State 9: Young team beginning to gel has just enough talent to advance
Saint Louis 5 vs NC State 12: The Billikens have been reeling but find a way to eke out a win
Louisville 4 vs Manhattan 13: Louisville is humming right now in their quest for a repeat
UMass 6 vs Tennessee 11: Vols showed against Iowa they are too strong for Minutemen
Duke 3 vs Mercer 14: An uptempo game, but the better athletes on Duke prevail
Texas 7 vs Arizona State 10: Both teams have been struggling, ‘Horns just enough better
Michigan 2 vs Wofford 15: The Wolverines will prove to be too tough of a test

Sweet 16 Mid-WestThird Round
Wichita State 1 vs Kentucky 8: Wichita State is simply a better and more cohesive team
Saint Louis 5 vs Louisville 4: The potential to be a blowout as Saint Louis is on their last legs
Tennessee 11 vs Duke: Too much strength inside forces Duke to rely on perimeter
Texas 7 vs Michigan 2: Most experience wins this contest but flaws become evident

East Regional (New York City)

Round of 64
Virginia 1 vs Coastal Carolina 16: The best team you have never heard of continues to roll
Memphis 8 vs George Washington 9: Too much speed and athleticism for the Colonials
Cincinnati 5 vs Harvard 12: Coach Mick Cronin is very aware of Harvard’s upset potential
Michigan St 4 vs Delaware 13: The surprise of the early tournament and Delaware is capable
North Carolina 6 vs Providence 11: The Friars have figured out how they play best at right time
Iowa State 3 vs NC Central 14: A team with great depth and balance built for an extended run
UConn 7 vs St. Joe’s 10: A Northeast showdown that means more for the scorching Hawks
Villanova 2 vs Milwaukee 15: This will be a contest but ‘Nova’s scrappy play saves the day

Sweet 16 EastThird Round
Virginia 1 vs Memphis 8: This is the game that finally gets the players recognized by name
Cincinnati 5 vs Delaware 13: Their guards make it a game but not enough size up front
Providence 11 vs Iowa State 3: The Cyclones tougher schedule is what gets them through this one
St. Joe’s 10 vs Villanova 2: Not enough gas in the tank to keep the hot streak going
